The Department was officially established in 1934 under the leadership of Professor B. Kondratsky, who also initiated the research at the Department. By that moment, Professor Kondratsky had the experience of training specialists in energy intensive compounds.

Academics

The Department runs Specialist Degree programs in “Chemistry and Technology of Organic Nitrogen Compounds” and “Chemistry and Technology of Pharmaceuticals”. Full-time or evening courses of study are available depending on a program. Bachelor’s, Master’s and Ph.D. Degree programs are also offered.

The graduates are employed in defense, chemical and mechanical engineering sectors of industry.

Research

Research at the Department is basically focused on:

• formulation of new energy intensive compounds and their sensibility;
• thermal stability studies;
• chemistry of nitroderivatives of azines, imidazole, nitrobenzofuroxanes;
• catalyzed arylamination;
• halide-aliphatic/halide-alicyclic compounds nitration;
• preparation and reactivity of functionalized nitramines and polynitramines.

Close links with industrial enterprises and research institutes have assured successful research at the Department. A number of thermostable energy intensive compounds are produced commercially.
