The Department was founded in 1952 and was initially chaired by Associate Professor Tatyana V. Burdikova. The Department trains specialists in heterogeneous compositions for a wide range of applications, from fireworks to space and missile engineering.

Academics

The Department runs Bachelor’s, Engineer and Master’s Degree programs in “Technology of Pyrotechnicals” and “Design and Production of Composite-Based Materials”. Full-time or evening courses of study are available depending on a program. Ph.D. Degree and Posdoctoral programs are offered.

Research

Research topics at the Department are as follows:

• ignition and burning processes of heterogeneous condensed systems;
• formulation of pyrotechnic compositions and new technologies for preparation thereof;
• physical-chemical mechanics of dispersed systems and materials;
• macrokinetics of heterogeneous reacting;
• formulation of promising composite materials.
