History

The Department of Architecture and Wood Product Design was established in 2008 in response to the intensive technological development of natural materials processing and increasing requirements to design of products. Specialists combining three-dimensional modeling skills and a sense of taste are in-demand in the modern world.

The Department is chaired by Ruslan R. Safin, Full Professor, Doctor of Engineering.

Academics

The Department runs the following Bachelor Degree Programs:

• Timber Harvesting and Processing Technology (Master Degree program is also available);
• Technology of Art Processing of Materials;
• Construction.

The Faculty of the Department includes Doctor of Engineering, Full Professor; 8 PhDs in Engineering, Associate Professors, and an engineer.

The Department gives courses of the following disciplines:

Research Activities

Wood drying:

• Vacuum technologies for valuable wood species drying;
• Design and modernization of dry kilns.

Thermal modification of wood and timber:

• Thermal modification of wood in liquids;
• Thermal modification of wood in flue gases;
• Development of technology of contact-impulse modification of wood.

Bioenergetics:

• Thermal decomposition of wood;
• Development of pellets with high calorific value.

Wood protection:

• Technology of combined drying and impregnation of wood in liquids;
• Energy efficiency technology of wood impregnation.

Wood-filled composite materials:

• Investigation of wood filler physicochemical properties in composite materials;
• Development of waterproof plywood with low emission rate.

Complex waste treatment:

• Extraction of conifer fir needles;
• Production of complex feed.

Research is supervised by Department Chair Ruslan Safin.
